SYNOPSIS-
It's the beginning of the summer in a small town in Ireland. Emma O'Donovan is eighteen years old, beautiful, happy, confident. One night, there's a party. Everyone is there. All eyes are on Emma. The next morning, she wakes on the front porch of her house. She can't remember what happened, she doesn't know how she got there. She doesn't know why she's in pain. But everyone else does. Photographs taken at the party show, in explicit detail, what happened to Emma that night. But sometimes people don't want to believe what is right in front of them, especially when the truth concerns the town's heroes...

Louise O'Neill is the best author out there- adult or young adult. With only two published books you would think she would only be starting to become well known- but it isn't the case. Both 'Only Ever Yours,' and 'Asking For It,' are such powerful and influential books: they are sure to be popular for centuries.

O'Neill writes with such force and vigour, about issues that society shy away from; you can't help clawing through the pages.

Emma O'Donovan is a popular, beautiful eighteen year old: and she knows it. When she goes out with her friends, she always gets noticed by a large number of boys or men: making her female peers secretly bitter and jealous.

One night, there is a party: and things do really get out of hand. Emma ends up on her front porch in the morning, having absolutely no idea how she got there. With no memory of what happened on the previous night, Emma doesn't know what is about to hit her. When even her closest friends don't know what really happened, there is one question every one is thinking: was she really asking for it?

This book really did bring out a variety of emotions in me: ones I didn't even know I existed. The events really shook me, making me consider other opinions and other sides of the issues and topics covered. As readers, we get to see Emma's side of the story; the gritty, real part: some parts made me wince, as knowing the events happening in this book really do happen in real life, did make me feel sick.

As a young adult, I had a faint idea and perception of the situations in 'Asking For It-' but Louise O'Neill really educated me throughout the book, her unique voice really shining through. To be quite honest, I think I could ramble about the book for pages and pages; and will probably keep thinking about it for years- it has had that substantial effect on me.

Louise O'Neill writes with flair, individuality and just pure genius, (she is really a fabulous woman.) I wanted to hate some of the characters, but as you see their stories unravel, you realise what they have been through; making you shiver.

An unquestionable 5/5- 'Asking For It,' is heart shattering, stunning and overwhelming. Never ever have I read a book anything like it.

  1. Great review! You've made me really, really want to read this now. It sounds like the author deals with a really difficult topic in such a great way, and it's definitely an issue that needs to be talked about more.

Do you think you could maybe check out my blog? I'm very new on the scene, but I'd love to hear some thoughts from someone a bit more experienced!
