THE HUNGER GAMES- BOOK REVIEW

TITLE:  The Hunger Games
AUTHOR: Suzanne Collins
PUBLISHER:  Scholastic
AGE GROUP: 12+
RATING: 4/5

The Hunger Games is set in a place called Panem, and it consists of a wealthy capitol, and 12 poor Districts that are around it. The capitol had set a punishment, for the districts rebelling against it. One male and female between the ages of 12 to 18 are picked from each district, and made to fight to death with other District members- in an arena- all for the capitols expense...

Katniss Everdeen from District 12, who is 16, volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her sister, Prim. Peeta Mellark is the male tribute for District 12. Katniss and Peeta get mentored by Haymitch, a previous drunken victor of the Hunger Games. Katniss meets her new stylist- Cinna- who she feels is the only person who understands her in this horrible situation. Personally, I love the imagery of the Capitol, and I also love when each of the tributes get interviewed on a TV show, and the descriptions of the outfits Cinna styles Katniss and Peter in. What will Katniss do when Peter reveals a big secret he has been hiding? How will she get sponsors to help her in the Games?

Get stuck in the arena with the tributes, as you read how Katniss will use her hunting skills, form alliances and start falling for someone unexpected. Are her feelings real? Who will win the games? I can't say much more about the plot, without revealing spoilers! I rate this book 4/5 hoots, only because I enjoyed the second book better.
